Head Coach – Wally Dembowski

Winchester athletic director Brian Carroll and Wally Dembowski’spaths have crossed twice in the last decade.

This time, their roads connected at Winchester High School.

The school announced that Dembowski would be the new head football coach, replacing Paul Sobolewski. Carroll spoke of their past and believes the future is bright for the Sachem football program.

“When I left AIC in 2000, Wally took my position on the staff,” Carroll said. “Then we were the finalists for the Lawrence Academy job. He got the job then decided he didn’t want to live in the country, so I wound up getting it.

“I think it is unbelievable that we were able to hire Wally. He just blew us away in the interview process. There was just so much depth and clarity in all his answers.”

Dembowski spent most of the past decade coaching at the college ranks, having served at AIC, UMass-Lowell, Holy Cross and Northeastern. He was the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at NU in 2009. Dembowski then spent a year as a volunteer assistant under his cousin Steve Dembowski at Swampscott High.
